The tank gauge uses the mature and proven ultrasonic technique to determine exactly how much oil is in the tank. The gauge reports the fuel level every 30 minutes using the WiFi system in the customer's home to connect to the internet. You can then easily access your data from your office computer. We also have an interface that your back office vendor can use to add the tank data to your routing software.

Basically you need three things. A free hole or bung in the top of the tank, a WiFi connection and an electrical outlet in reasonable proximity to the tank.
Once the gauge is mechanically installed and plugged in you just need to choose the WiFi network and enter the password. This is accomplished using our Free app on a smart phone or tablet.

Yes, all standard size steel and Roth tanks are pre-programed into our software. All you have to do is select the size you want and you're good to go. The program also allows you to enter special or custom tanks.

The price of the gauge itself is $79. There is also a charge of 50 cents per month or $6 per year to access the data collected by our proprietary software. An optional remote reader is also available for $80.

Some of our competitors charge well over $100 for the gauge. However, the big difference is the monthly access fee. All of our competitors charge a minimum of 400% more than we do. If you have 100 gauges in the field those savings amount to $1,800 per year.

Despite what some of our competitors would have you believe, this is not new technology. We developed and used remote gauging technology and software (originally for large ships at sea) over 15 years ago.

While degree days work reasonably well, there are a lot of variables which can dramatically throw off the accuracy of your delivery projections including the following:

• Uncertainty as to when customers turn their heat on and off for the season
• Customers use or discontinue use of supplement heat, such as a wood stove
• Construction and/or an addition to the property
• Use of a swimming pool heater
• Customer insulates or replaces old windows
• Additional people move in or out of the property
• Customer takes a delivery from another oil company
• Customer installs smart or setback thermostats
• Customer goes on vacation and turns the heat down

With a wireless tank gauge you know exactly how much oil is in each customer's tank. That means you can deliver your target amount every time.

Depending upon your customer base and service area, the cost of delivering home heating oil is generally between 17 and 25 cents per gallon. By making your deliveries more efficient, we believe that the use of wireless tank gauges will, on average, allow you to make one less delivery to each customer over the course of the year. Let's assume that your average customer uses 800 gallons per year and that you are making 5 deliveries to that customer over the course of the year. If you are able to cut the number of deliveries to 4 per year that's a 20% reduction in deliveries and delivery costs.

Based on these numbers the payback period is 2.1 years ($71 / $33.60) and the return on investment is 47.3 % ($33.60 / $71) in year one and 38.9% ($33.60 - $6 / $71) in all subsequent years.

While those numbers are impressive, we believe that the savings are even greater because the extra marginal delivery you need to make without the wireless gauge costs more than the other deliveries. That last delivery is the one where you will likely be paying your driver overtime or have to buy and run an additional truck to meet your delivery obligations.
